It's All About Faith
We often describe Central Florida Bible Camp as… all about Fun… all about Friends… and all about Faith. Many of our campers, especially our younger ones, are here only for the Fun and Friends. Despite coming from a Christian family, they oftentimes aren’t really concerned about their own faith. They are still young enough that Faith is something their parents have, not something that is “real” to them yet. Similarly, those from “unchurched” families, although they may know about God, really don’t know God. They are clueless about the significance of Jesus dying on the cross. Likewise, having a relationship with God is not important, in fact, Faith is not given a second thought.
But herein lies one of the secrets of church camp: Faith is packaged in with Fun and Friends in such a way that campers accept it. Willingly. Camp is really all about Faith. For the brief time they are here, campers live it every day. From the time they wake up in the morning until they go to bed at night, these young people see Faith alive in everyone and everything around them. At home, Faith may be something they see in their parents and in a few others from time to time during the week. But here, they are surrounded by it, engulfed in it. Through the example and influence of godly counselors, staff and fellow campers, Faith is demonstrated to them in such a way that they begin to see it’s significance and importance. It becomes real to them.
It may be that only a seed is planted, or perhaps a seed that is lying dormant is watered and begins to sprout. Sometimes, in fact, more often than not, a Faith that was once just “Mom and Dad’s” now begins to grow and takes root in the young camper himself. An awakening occurs a realization that Faith brings meaning and purpose to life. It’s important. It’s desirable.
Yes, that’s camp. It’s all about Faith. It’s a beautiful thing.
“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, ‘“I have no pleasure in them.’” (Eccl. 12:1 NKJV)
