One word can be used to describe Barker/Weaver Week 2009, “Super!” Our tenth year proved to be a super year in every way possible.
Super Sized – With 206 campers and 75 staff, this week broke almost every record in the books. Yet, with a few schedule changes and alterations to dining procedures the week actually felt smaller than in years past.
Super Staff – The staff was amazing. Counselors, Bible teachers, canteen workers, kitchen staff, activity staff, woods project leaders, devotion leaders, maintenance, security, clerical and the nursing staff all came together to make is a super week. Everyone worked hard to focus on our purpose.
Super New Coordinator – This year, Kevin Barker and I asked Wilson Ray to join the coordinator team. Wilson has extensive leadership and management experience. He also has a great love for God and His people. Wilson has proven to be a wonderful addition to our family and played a large role in the success of the week.
Super Worship – While I hesitate to call worship “super”, there is no question that our times of worship were heartfelt offerings to God. The singing was amazing as more than 250 people lifted up their voices in praise each night. Much effort was put into planning each lesson with several being activity based. On Friday night we walked through the last days of Jesus’ life on earth. The tears and the expressions were evidence of how God’s love impacts lives.
Super Campers – In ten years of coordinating, this is my first year to have no significant discipline issues. This was the best behaved group of campers ever. I received numerous comments on their cooperative spirit and polite manners. They were truly a joy to serve.
Super Fun – From team competitions, to Deal or No Deal, to water day, to paintball, to duct tape crafts, to flour bombs, the woods project, it was all fun. Campers and staff alike participated like never before and fun was had by all.
It was truly a super week. CFBC is blessed to have super weeks all summer long and I am thankful that Barker/Weaver/Ray week is one of them. I want to thank Ron, Linda, Jane, Eugene and Clayton for all that you did to make the week a success.
May God continue to bless this ministry till Jesus comes!
