Those Wonderful Sojourners!

Once again we are indebted to the Sojourners who for several years have showered us with their time and talents. From January 11-28 a group of about 48 folks from all over the country labored here completing a variety of projects and making CFBC a better place. Under the able leadership of Jim Pratt and Ray Vines, these servant-hearted people trimmed, cut, raked, painted, washed, cleaned, cut, swept, built, installed, organized, repaired, etc., etc., etc. You name it, they probably did it.

Zip Line Now a Reality

For several years many have expressed an interest in the camp building a zip line. For those who don't know, a zip line consists of a steel cable stretched between two poles or trees, usually at a high elevation. Participants either hold on to a handle (for low-elevation lines) or are strapped in (on high-elevation lines) and ride from one end to the other. Zip lines are considered to be one type of a high-ropes challenge course. High and low-ropes challenge courses are used to teach participants teamwork, communications, leadership, problem solving, overcoming fears, confidence, trust and many other lessons. Plus, they are just plain fun.

Well, we are happy to announce... (drum roll please)... Central Florida Bible Camp now has a zip line! In fact, we have two!

2010 Summer Camp Applications Now Available

Applications for 2010 Summer Camp sessions are now available. Campers from last year and others on our mailing list who have asked to be included will receive an application in the mail. If you do not receive one, you may download it from our website or contact the office and one will be mailed to you.

You will notice that sessions are a week later this year, with our first session not starting until the second week in June. This is because most public school districts do not finish until the first week of June. Their late finish meant that our first session would not be well attended unless we made a similar adjustment. Those of you who attend the Middle School or Teen Week sessions will also notice that these are back to their tradition time slots. Teen Week is June 13-19 and Middle School week is July 18-24

Largest Attendance Ever at Mother/Daughter Retreat

This year’s Mother/Daughter Retreat was a great success. We had 128 in attendance which was the largest number ever for a Mother/Daughter Retreat at Central Florida Bible Camp. We also really enjoyed meeting with our Spanish sisters from several  area congregations.  Maribel Preciado helped a great deal in the Spanish area and we were able to have breakout sessions for both Spanish-speakers and English-speakers. We sang beautiful songs and we learned several new songs in Spanish. I know "As the Deer Panteth for the Water" sounds beautiful in English, but you should hear it in Spanish.

"Scrappers" Come Together

About thirty women joined forces September 11-13 and an additional 38 January 29-31 for fun, fellowship and non-stop scrapbooking. This was only the second and third time for CFBC to host a ‘scrap’ — the first was in January of 2009. The ladies, most of whom who are self-avowed scrapbooking enthusiasts, love being together and sharing ideas as they transform their photo memories into beautiful keepsake albums.

Elizabeth Brackett, who serves as coordinator for the event, expressed the thoughts of most of the women when she said it is “... a wonderful relaxing weekend: great fun, great prizes, great food and a definite sense of accomplishment.”
