Continue the Legacy

Gunselman, Prevatt, Sharp, Breakfield, Boyd, Patton, Chastain, Starling, Grimes, Rose, Brown, Barton, Smith, Stutzman, and Feagin.  Some of these names may be familiar to you, while others may not.  They are just a few of the people who worked so diligently in the early days to make CFBC a reality and they came to mind recently when I was reading 2 Corinthians 8:1-7:

1 And now, brothers and sisters, we want to tell you what God’s grace has done in the churches in Macedonia. These believers have been tested by great troubles, and they are very poor. But their great joy caused them to be very generous in their giving. I can tell you that they gave as much as they were able and even more than they could afford. No one told them to do this. It was their idea. But they asked us again and again—they begged us to let them share in this service for God’s people. And they gave in a way that we did not expect: They gave themselves to the Lord and to us before they gave their money. This is what God wants. So we asked Titus to help you finish this special work of giving. He is the one who started this work. You are rich in everything—in faith, in speaking ability, in knowledge, in the willingness to help, and in the love you learned from us. So now we want you to be rich in this work of giving too. (Easy-to-Read)

It is because of these people and their reliance on a faithful God, that Central Florida Bible Camp has become what it is today.  Their vision, faith, time, talent, money, sweat, perseverance and so much more was spent sacrificially in service to God’s people — in service to us!

I’ve often said, as the current Camp Director and a Board Member, that I stand on the shoulders of others who have gone before me.  Paul encouraged the Corinthians regarding a work that Titus started.  I believe we owe those early men and women our best effort to continue the great legacy they started.

What does Central Florida Bible Camp mean to you?  Did you attend as a camper?  Has it had any impact on your life?  What about your kids or grandkids?  Or others in your family or congregation?  Has their faith been strengthened through involvement in Camp activities?  If so, you owe those early folks, like I do, a great debt.

Let’s continue their legacy.  Let’s work together to build on it and grow it bigger and better.  We are rich in so many ways.  Let’s be rich in this work also.  I believe this is what God wants.
